Who knew what to expect?
Kirkbymoorside, a quiet sleepy village on edge of the North Yorkshire moors up a dark lane to the golf club -
plenty in, tucking into 'steak pie with spuds and peas'. Have they ever heard of REM? Well time was upon us the band were ready, it's show time. Opening song perfect - 'The Great Beyond'. What a treat - there were dancers up from the very first song to the end of the night. The first half packed with classic REM songs Fall on Me, One I Love, LNY, Find the River, Strange Currencies, At My Most Beautiful, Country Feedback, Everybody Hurts and Imitation of Life. Absolutely brilliant, not a foot wrong. A short break and Stipe were back on. Second half - could have done with an extension on the dance floor - packed and the music getting better. Orange Crush, Bad Day (not for us) Losing my Religion (the crowd went ballistic) Stand, Shiny Happy People (they certainly were), Sidewinder, and Man on the Moon. Fantastic. No chance of escape with a packed dance floor yelling for More, the encore to finish Departure, Kenneth and End of the World. It was breathtaking. That was the end of the show, or was it? The band had no chance of escape with still a packed dance floor the audience wanted more again and this time they chose the songs. This was brilliant, so for the second encore Shiny Happy People (once again they were) One I Love, Losing my Religion and the final song 7 Chinese Brothers - PHEW! WHAT AN ABSOLUTELY FANTASTIC NIGHT. Rick, Paul, Tony, Pete and Karl - REM Music at its best. Thanks. It won't be long before you're playing the bigger stage. If you're an REM fan and you have not yet seen STIPE you're missing an absolute Treat. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED. Once again thanks for a brilliant evening keep up the hard work your dedication shows in your performance. BRILLIANT. See you soon Martin and Julie Review by: Martin & Julie |
